What is ClariVein®?

ClariVein®, or mechanico-chemical ablation, is a minimally invasive vein treatment for varicose veins caused by venous insufficiency. This technique combines mechanical and chemical methods to close faulty veins. A thin catheter with a rotating tip is inserted into the affected vein through a small puncture.

The rotating tip irritates the vein’s inner lining while simultaneously delivering a sclerosant solution that causes the vein to collapse and seal shut. Over time, the treated vein is absorbed by the body, and blood flow is naturally redirected to healthy veins. ClariVein® is highly effective, causes minimal discomfort, and typically doesn’t require local anaesthesia around the vein, making it a patient-friendly option for varicose veins treatment in Dubai.

What to Expect on the Day of Your ClariVein® Procedure

When you arrive for your ClariVein® treatment for varicose veins, you’ll be welcomed into a comfortable outpatient environment. The procedure usually takes around 30 to 45 minutes. This efficient treatment is increasingly sought after in centers offering advanced vascular surgery in Dubai.

Here’s what to expect from Clarivein® treatment for varicose veins:

Preparation: You’ll change into a gown, and the treatment area will be cleaned and marked. Ultrasound imaging will be used to map the course of the varicose vein to guide the ClariVein® catheter.

Anaesthesia: The procedure generally requires only a small amount of local anaesthetic at the insertion site. This minimal anaesthesia contributes to the quicker and more comfortable experience associated with ClariVein®.

Treatment: Under continuous ultrasound guidance, a small ClariVein® catheter with a rotating tip is inserted into the vein. As the catheter is slowly withdrawn along the length of the diseased vein, it both mechanically disrupts the vein lining with its rotating action and simultaneously releases a precise dose of sclerosant to cause the vein to collapse and seal shut.

Post-Procedure Care: A compression stocking will be applied to the treated leg to support healing and reduce swelling, and you’ll be encouraged to walk shortly after to promote healthy blood flow and minimize the risk of blood clots. Most patients can return home the same day and resume normal activities within 24 hours, highlighting the convenience of this minimally invasive vein treatment.

What to Expect Following ClariVein® Treatment

After your ClariVein® procedure, you may experience mild discomfort, tightness, or slight bruising along the treated vein, which typically resolves within a few days. These sensations are part of the body’s natural healing response as the treated vein begins to close.

Compression Stockings: You’ll be advised to wear compression stockings for 1-2 weeks to support healing and reduce swelling. The duration may be adjusted based on your specific case and the recommendations of your vein specialist in Dubai.

Activity: Light walking is encouraged immediately after the procedure, typically for 30-60 minutes daily, to promote circulation. Strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and prolonged standing should be avoided for about a week to allow the treated vein to heal properly.

Follow-Up Appointments: A follow-up ultrasound will be scheduled within a week to confirm that the vein has properly closed and to assess the overall outcome of the ClariVein® treatment for varicose veins. Additional follow-up appointments may be recommended to monitor your long-term vein health.

Recovery: Most patients recover quickly with continued improvement in symptoms like leg heaviness, pain, and swelling. The minimally invasive nature of ClariVein® contributes to this faster recovery compared to traditional surgical methods for varicose veins treatment in Dubai.

While ClariVein® offers excellent, long-lasting results, regular follow-up visits with your vein specialist, especially those experienced in vascular surgery in Dubai, are recommended to monitor your vein health and prevent future complications. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can also contribute to the long-term success of the treatment.

How ClariVein® Differs from EVLA and RFA?

ClariVein® differs significantly from Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) and Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) because it does not require tumescent anaesthesia or multiple injections. Unlike EVLA and RFA, which use heat energy and need several anaesthetic injections along the entire length of the treated vein to protect surrounding tissues and minimize discomfort, ClariVein® uses a non-thermal, mechanical-chemical approach with just a single puncture site for catheter insertion and minimal local anaesthetic at that site.

This makes the ClariVein® treatment for varicose veins quicker, less invasive, and generally more comfortable, with minimal bruising and a faster recovery. The absence of heat also eliminates the risk of heat-related nerve damage, a potential concern with EVLA and RFA. This makes ClariVein® a compelling option for patients seeking a gentler minimally invasive vein treatment in places like Dubai.

ClariVein Treatment for Varicose Veins

  • Non-Thermal Ablation:The non-thermal nature of ClariVein® is a key advantage, leading to less post-operative pain and bruising compared to heat-based methods.

  • Reduced Risk of Nerve Damage: By avoiding heat, ClariVein® minimizes the potential for nerve injury that can occur with thermal ablation techniques.

  • Treatment of Tortuous Veins: The flexible catheter of ClariVein® can navigate tortuous (twisted) veins more easily than some other ablation devices, making it suitable for a wider range of varicose vein anatomies.

  • Sclerosant Delivery: The simultaneous mechanical disruption of the vein lining enhances the effectiveness of the sclerosant solution, leading to reliable vein closure.

  • Outpatient Procedure: Like other minimally invasive vein treatments, ClariVein® is typically performed as an outpatient procedure, allowing patients to return home shortly after.

  • Suitability: ClariVein® is often a good option for patients with symptomatic varicose veins who prefer a non-thermal approach with minimal anaesthesia. A consultation with a vascular surgeon in Dubai can determine if ClariVein® is the most appropriate treatment for your specific condition.
